Our Purpose
About The Commonlight Initiative
A volunteer initiative dedicated to exploring cross-cultural understanding through diverse perspectives and open dialogue.
Our Mission
“To illuminate our shared humanity through dialogue that transcends conventional boundaries of thought and geography.”
Our Vision
“A world where cultural differences are celebrated as sources of strength, and where understanding transcends borders.”
The Commonlight Philosophy
Our Founder

Michael Peterson
Founder & Chairman
"The greatest light emerges not in times of ease, but in moments of profound darkness. When geopolitical circumstances seem most bleak, when division appears insurmountable, that is precisely when our shared humanity shines most brightly—if we have the wisdom to look for it."
How We Work
Our Approach
The Commonlight Initiative brings together a loose network of part-time volunteers who share an interest in cross-cultural understanding.
Each contributor brings their own unique vantage point, creating a diversity of perspectives that enriches our conversations and explorations.
The name “Commonlight” captures our founding philosophy: that when we look beyond surface divisions, we find shared illumination that can guide understanding toward better outcomes.
